Infectious Endocarditis without Marked Signs of Inflammation where High Sensitivity CRP Assay was Effective

چکیده
A 26-year-old male was diagnosed as infectious endocarditis based on the findings bacteremia of methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vegetation of mitral valve. Though infectious endocarditis is generally accompanied with high fever, increase in white blood cell count and rise in Creactive protein (CRP), the patient displayed none of them except an abnormal rise of high sensitivity CRP. We, therefore, suggest the capability of high sensitivity CRP as a useful laboratory marker for diagnosis and treatment of infectious endocarditis, especially for such rare type of patient we described. A high sensitivity assay is more accurate than a classical assay for the measurement of plasma CRP levels in endometriosis
BACKGROUND Endometriosis is associated with chronic subclinical inflammation. C-reactive protein (CRP), a marker of inflammation, could serve as a biomarker of endometriosis. We tested the hypothesis that a high sensitivity CRP assay (hsCRP) is more accurate than a classical CRP assay in the detection of subclinical inflammation in plasma of women with endometriosis. METHODS CRP levels were m...
متن کاملAnalysis of variability of high sensitivity C-reactive protein in lowland Ecuador reveals no evidence of chronic low-grade inflammation.
OBJECTIVES C-reactive protein (CRP) is a central component of innate immune defenses, and high sensitivity CRP has emerged as an important biomarker of chronic inflammation and cardiovascular disease risk. Prior analyses of CRP variability have reported stable between-individual differences in CRP over time, but a limitation of current knowledge is that it is based on research conducted in post...
متن کاملHigh Sensitivity C–Reactive Protein and Im-munoglobulin G against Chlamydia Pneumo-niae and Chlamydial Heat Shock Protein-60 in Ischemic Heart Disease
Background: Inflammation and infectious agents such as Chlamydia pneumoniae have been associated with cardiovascular disease. Objective: To evaluate the serum high sensitivity C - reactive protein (hs-CRP) and antibodies against Chlamydia pneumoniae and Chlamydial heat shock protein-60 (Cp-HSP60) in patients with ischemic heart disease (IHD). Methods: 62 patients with IHD having either acute my...
متن کاملHigh sensitivity C-reactive protein is associated with the metabolic syndrome independent to viral and bacterial pathogen burden.
AIM To investigate the influences of bacterial or viral pathogen burden in the relationship of high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and the metabolic syndrome in a population-based study. METHODS Data from 1754 men and women aged >or=25 years, from the Persian Gulf Healthy Heart Study were analyzed. The definition of the metabolic syndrome according to the Adult Treatment Panel III wa...
متن کاملQuantitative detection of C-reactive protein using phosphocholine-labelled enzyme or microspheres.
C-reactive protein (CRP) is a positive, acute-phase protein. Plasma levels rise dramatically in response to tissue injury or inflammation and fall rapidly after recovery or treatment. Antibody-based human CRP test systems do not readily detect CRP from other animals due to the species specificity of antibodies directed against human CRP. Thus, generic systems for CRP detection, based solely on ...
